Cheating and the Internet
Be alert .... but use these sites as a support for your students.
Don't scare your students get them to use the internet as a resource.
Encourage your students to visit all these sites. They can learn a lot from other students attempts to write an essay.You could even get students to grade some of the papers that turn up on these sites to give them an idea of what a marker is looking for.
But remind students that you only accept their own work
Google will catch out many cheats.
Simply enter a sentence of text from a student's essay and if it has been copied you will often find the source.
Why not show students this too, to put them off the idea of plagiarism from the internet.
